Alice C Tyler Village of Childhelp

The children we serve have experienced emotional and mental trauma.
Exposing them to nature as part of our treatment milieu creates stillness, stimulates wonder and creates a space where healing can happen. Age 5-12. Traumatized children from Va and WVA primarily. 85 children served annually. Each child participates in a nature study group each week. Bright Futures Academy
DESCRIPTION: At Bright Futures Academy thru our EDU-Garden program, we make soil study an integral part of our curriculum. Our students learn in our 10,000 sq.ft. Garden , that the health and availability of good organic soil is what makes our garden so successful. We are constantly maintaining our compost area and yet we can hardly make enough for our needs and must seek other sources from time to time. Our teachers are always teaching the importance of our soil and ways to combat those natural environmental factors such as erosion and the man made factors such as chemical soil enhancers and poor farming practices .
